The Power of Moon Journaling: Setting Intentions and Manifesting Reality

A moon journal is like a cosmic To-Do List. It is a workbook of sort where you keep a record and chart the progress of your short term and long term life goals.

I work with the phases of the moon to set intentions for my life and manifest the reality I want to create. This allows a dedicated time each month for goal-setting and mapping the steps needed to realize those goals. I keep track of my intentions and manifestations each month in my moon journal, allowing me to analyze, adjust, and course-correct when things aren't working. This practice enables me to be an active participant in creating my life.

Before we dive into the how of the moon journal we need to answer one question:

What is the difference between Intention Setting & Manifesting???

Intention setting and manifesting are two terms that are often used interchangeably, but they actually refer to distinct practices. Intention setting is the process of proclaiming what it is you plan to do. It is saying YES to action. When you "intend" to do something, you are making a plan for your immediate or distant future. This can include setting goals, making plans, or taking specific steps towards achieving something. However, it's important to remember that intention setting is not just about making a plan - it's about committing to follow through on that plan. It's important to only commit to things that you feel fully open to, as this will increase the likelihood that you will actually follow through.

Manifesting, on the other hand, is the process of calling something into your life. This could be anything from money to health to willingness. Manifesting is based on the idea that our thoughts and beliefs have the power to shape our reality. By focusing on what we want and being open to the possibility of it coming to us, we can bring those things into our lives. Manifesting can be based on the intention you set to increase the energy of the work you are doing. For example, if your intention is to improve your financial situation, you could use the energy of the full moon to help you manifest abundance.

Overall, intention setting and manifesting are complementary practices that can help you achieve your goals and create the life you want. By setting intentions and focusing on what you want, you can create a roadmap for your future and take action towards your goals. By manifesting your desires, you can bring those goals into reality and create the life you want to live.

How do you intend to live your life now to get to where you want to be in the future? What do you need to call in or manifest to support that intention?

Let’s take a look at the phases of the moon and the action (or non-action) steps you want to write about in your journal. For each phase, I have included a journal prompt or question to ask yourself to get your thoughts flowing. I have also included an affirmation that resonates with that phase.

Full Disclosure:

I am not one to keep a journal. I have always tried to but it just doesn’t stick. Through extreme discipline I have been able to keep up with my moon journal for the New and Full moon phases. Why? It really helps me stay on track with the direction I want my life to be going in. I created a very simple Notion template for my journal. You can duplicate it into your notion here. You can also go old school and pick up a new journal that inspires you, get a new pen while you’re at it!
